24 November 2011: Kumaresan Shanmugam of Malaysia won the first ever Faldo Series Brunei Championship at The Empire Hotel and Country Club to claim his place in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in China.  Brunei’s Muhammad Hariz Hashim finished third to earn a Grand Final spot as the top-placed national player.

Malaysian-resident Gibbons fired rounds of 73 and 70 at the Royal Trophy venue to finish at one-over-par on 143.  The 16-year-old qualifies for his second Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club next March.

28 September 2011: Defending champion Kenneth De Silva will have another Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in his sights when the 54-hole Faldo Series Malaysia Championship heads to Royal Selangor Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur for the first time on October 18-20.

“This is my first win in a major tournament so I’m pleased by how well I coped with my nerves today,” said 18-year-old Shanmugam after shooting rounds of 71 and 73 to finish on two over par and win by two.  “I’m very excited about going to China for the Grand Final and picking up tips from Sir Nick Faldo.”
